Nick Christner
Deputy Director for Compliance and Investigations
Nick Christner serves as Deputy Director for
Compliance and Investigations. In this capacity, he leads the agency division
responsible for complaint analysis, investigation, and resolution. Mr. Christner arrived at DPOR after seven years with the Virginia Racing Commission (VRC), where he served as Director of Operations & Enforcement for the wagering and horse racing industry. In that position, he was responsible for investigations into criminal violations and civil improprieties, and he managed the VRC licensing office that reviewed all applications and issued licenses. Mr. Christner also served as Acting Executive Director of the National Racing Compact, performing similar licensing and investigative duties at the national level for 22 member states.
Additional career experience includes various law enforcement positions as police officer, special agent, state police trooper, investigator, and command level supervisory positions. Mr. Christner has been an adjunct instructor in the Virginia Community College system and instructed entry and in-service level police officers at regional police academies in Virginia.
Mr. Christner has undergraduate degrees in Criminology and Police Science and earned his Master's degree in Public Safety Leadership from Christopher Newport University. He is also a graduate of the Virginia Executive Institute of the Center for Public Policy, of the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University. Mr. Christner completed additional post-graduate work at the Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government, in Cambridge Massachusetts. He is an alumnus of the Executive Education Program for "Senior Executives in State and Local Government."
